Thailand defeats Australia to win Southeast Asian championship for the first time

The Thai women's futsal team excellently secured the Southeast Asian championship at home after a breath-taking final match ending 5-4.

The Thai women's futsal team defeated Australia 5-4 in the final to win the ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship title. In the semi-finals, Thailand beat Vietnam 4-2, while Australia overcame Indonesia 3-2 after extra time.

Thailand dominated from the start, attacking continuously. In the 5th minute, from a corner kick, Nattamon Atkla passed to Saengrawee Meekham, who scored with her left foot, putting the Thai women's futsal team ahead 1-0.

In the 17th minute, Australia was awarded a throw-in, and Halle Smith's shot deflected off Saengrawee Meekham into the net, equalizing the score 1-1. In the 19th minute, Thailand regained the lead from a throw-in; Jenjira Bubpha's shot went in off the near post, making it 2-1, which was the score at the end of the first half.

In the second half, at the 23rd minute, Australia leveled 2-2 from a corner kick. Nikita Fazzari's shot deflected off Sasiprapa Suksen into the goal. At the 24th minute, Australia took the lead from a free kick. Alessia Carries Stahl's shot went through the wall, putting Australia ahead 3-2.

In the 31st minute, Thailand equalized from a free kick. Praeploy Huajai Phet passed to Darika Pienphaylun, who scored with her left foot, making it 3-3. In the 35th minute, Ariya Saetern dribbled forward before passing to Darika Pienphaylun, who finished with her left foot, making it 4-3. In the 36th minute, Thailand extended the lead to 5-3 from a second penalty, successfully converted by Darika Pienphaylun, completing her hat-trick.

In the 40th minute, Australia scored to narrow the gap when Nikita Fazzari's shot deflected off Nattamon Atkla and changed direction. The score became 4-5. No further goals were scored in the remaining time, and the Thai women's futsal team defeated Australia 5-4, thereby winning their first-ever Southeast Asian championship.

Ms. Pang Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand, along with Mr. Adisak Benjasiriwan, Vice President in charge of Futsal and Beach Soccer Development, jointly presented a 2 million baht bonus to the Thai national women's futsal team.
